Whittier restaurants from uptown Whittier fine dining to delightful Italian and Mexican deli dives. Local California dining guide by Whittier real estate agents Bob Ulrich and Nancy. Because buying or selling real estate is hard work. By the time you finish moving you're going to be HUNGRY. Here are our favorites in no particular order.
Which Whittier eatery would you recommend to new neighbors?
Phlight 6724 Bright Ave, Whittier, CA 90601
(562) 789-0578
Phlight isn't for every night, just special ones. It's one of those restaurants where contemporary, stylish and tasty describe both the décor and the tapas style food. Try the steak and sweet potato fries. And do not miss the decadent bacon wrapped dates. Top it off with to die for Mexican chocolate soufflé. Expensive, but worth the treat. Phlight will be one of your favorite uptown whittier restaurants.
The Bottle Room 6741 Greenleaf Avenue, Whittier, CA 90601
(562) 696-8000
The Bottle room is definitely one of the best restaurants in uptown Whittier. "Ordinary food" done extraordinarily well with the best craft beer selection around. This is not the place for a romantic dinner. It is, after all a bar, and it can get rather noisy. But the food is fabulous. Love the over the top burgers with blue & swiss cheeses and sweet potato fries. Try to attend one of the 5 course "Beer Dinners" featuring a set menu with food carefully paired with a specific beer.
Ciao Italia Panini Grill 7248 Painter Ave, Ste A, Whittier, CA 90602
(562) 464-2426
Panini Italian sandwich heaven! Sausage, roasted pepper and tomato garlic pesto is my favorite. The veggie chips are tasty. A friend of mine says she actually gets cravings for their tuna fish sandwiches. Try one of the restaurants Italian sodas and drinks.
Lascari's Deli & Bakery 14104 E Lambert Rd, Whittier, CA 90605
(562) 698-5899
Go for the sandwiches and you'll come back for the mushroom lasagna, garlic bread, and minestrone soup. Large menu selection will keep you interested. They have two restaurants, for a good sit down dinner try the location at 16255 Whittier Blvd., Whittier, CA 90603 (562) 943-1113. And don't forget to order the Gelatto for dessert!
Arturo's Puffy Taco 15693 Leffingwell Rd, Whittier, CA 90604
(562) 947-2250
You ain't eaten in Whittier restaurants until you've had a "puffy"! This unpretentious place was featured on the Food Network's "Throwdown with Bobby Flay" several years ago. The unique shells remind me of what you'd get if you took Fritos dough (less salty though), shaped it and fried it to a delicious crispiness. My favorites are the carne asada & carnitas. Bring cash. They don't take plastic. There is an ATM machine if you forget.
Tacos Baja 16032 Whittier Boulevard, Whittier, CA 90603
(562) 943-6163
99 cent taco Wednesdays! And unlike some of my other favorite restaurants, its just a couple of blocks east of the office. The fish tacos are melt in the mouth delicious. Simple fried crispy fish, white sauce and fresh crunchy lettuce. Just add a small lime squeeze. And don't pass up the shrimp tacos either. This is one of the best Whittier restaurants to satisfy your Mexican food cravings.
Steak Corral Restaurants (or Westaurants) 11605 Washington Blvd, Whittier, CA 90606
(562) 692-7129
Best ribeye value in Whittier. Just as good as Outback for half the price (almost). You can get two steak dinners with drinks for about $20. The 1940's vintage décor is a little tired, but you're there for the steaks, not the ambiance. Ok, so maybe you're there for the cheese bread too. And the ice cream sundae desserts.
Thai Table 10509 Santa Gertrudes Ave, Whittier, CA 90603
(562) 947-9670
Fresh food, uncrowded and reasonably priced. The $6.99 lunch special is a blessing for Nancy- and it's close to our office. The pad thai has plenty of chicken and shrimp and is garnished with fresh bean sprouts (no brownish roots!) and crushed peanuts. Definitely try any of the curries. But be careful, if the menu says it's spicy, it's hot enough to make you sweat! They don't serve rice with the dishes, so get a brown rice bowl. It's $5, but enough to serve 4 people and it has a nice nutty flavor. Order the Thai iced tea. And leave enough room for their homemade coconut ice cream for dessert.
